Plot: Five kids in a vacation golf camp unexpectedly get superpowers when they discover a magical portal.
Context: Hey Red Mango Readers. Editor Jules here, and I’m talking about Cariwood (Caribbean Cinema) again. You know I love me some Cariwood. As we get more and more content from the various countries in the region (if you know of any we haven’t covered, do give us a heads up) one area that is sorely lacking is children’s programming. One person who is seeking to help change that trend is Walt Disney Company and Lion Forge Animation alum Kafi Kareem with her debut feature project, musical superhero tale The Caddy Club. The Trinidad and Tobago writer/director, who also created the award-winning short-form adult animated comedy web series Big Man Dan, released a teaser trailer for her new project five days ago and below is my brief review:
Review: The teaser trailer is just under a minute but delivers more than enough to whet the appetite. Firstly, the animation is exploding with colour and really draws you in. There is a sense of mystery and fun and adventure that is palpable. And the action is set to extremely catchy Caribbean music (an original song from the movie, “Show Off”.)
We see the above-mentioned five kids and three of them demonstrating their powers. As a superhero fan, I do enjoy shows about superpowered people, and as a Caribbean man and father of two it is always a pleasure to see characters that both look and sound like us. And speaking of the characters, their designs look cool and each one stands out. You can even get a hint about their personalities.
So suffice to say the trailer has me very excited about the The Caddy Club and I will definitely be checking it out when it releases.
