Sommerleigh Pollonais – Horror Head Writer
No Escape is brought to you by the same writer/director of thriller/horror Escape Room (2017), not to be confused with Sci Fi thriller Escape Room (2019). Stick with what you know I guess. No Escape is about six friends who travel to Russia with their online sensation friend and group leader, Cole, to participate in an extreme escape room, only to find out what anyone who’s seen Russian YouTube videos already know – Russians be crazy!

Now I’ve seen my share of Escape Room movies (all of the above and a few more). Some have been more entertaining than others, but they all have the same thing in common – they’re all predictable. You see the problem with escape rooms is the premise doesn’t leave much room for surprise twists. You’re locked in a room you have to escape from, all is fun and games until things get real, and now you have to, well escape!
Director Will Wernick tries to make things a bit more interesting here by adding a Hostel-type feel to the proceedings and there’s even a touch of Saw here and there, with each room having traps that can hurt you. But, I knew how this movie was going to end ten minutes into the story. I’m not even showing off, as I’m pretty sure EVERYONE who sees this movie, will also figure out exactly how its gonna end.

That said, No Escape (originally titled Follow Me) is well shot, the actors, while cliched as all hell, aren’t bad in their roles. And as a horror movie-of-the-week type of film, it’s not a bad way to pass the time. Or you can just go watch 2019’s Escape Room instead. It’s definitely the best of the bunch I’ve seen so far.
