Top 9 Coolest Adventure Time Characters

You lied to me ‘Adventure Time’. You said “the fun never ends”. It’s right there in the title sequence song! So why are you ending? It’s UNACCEPTABLE!

My angry rant above is in response to the news this week that Emmy award-winning and massively popular Cartoon Network animated series ‘Adventure Time’ will end in 2018 after its ninth season. Just two weeks ago I was reporting that fellow Cartoon Network series ‘Regular Show’ would be ending after its seventh season. What are you all trying to do to people man?!

Anywho ‘Adventure Time’ is a fantastic show with superb characters, wacky plots, a surprisingly deep mythology and tonnes of humour and personality that is beloved by both adults and children, though it can get a bit too dark for the latter. Created by Pendleton Ward the show follows the story of a boy named Finn (voiced by Jeremy Shada) and his best friend and adoptive brother Jake (John DiMaggio), a dog with the magical ability to alter his shape and size. The two live in a giant tree house and have adventures in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo.

‘Adventure Time’ is populated by many great characters and in honour of the show we will be counting down the Top 9:

#9 Earl of Lemongrab

You know what it is…

This lemon-headed guy, the first being created by Candy Kingdom ruler Princess Bubblegum, is socially dysfunctional and has a habit of shouting “unacceptable” at happy or comical behaviour which he finds, well, unacceptable. And every time he does it I find it hilarious. He is so just odd and memorable, especially with all the Lemongrab clones, that he had to make this list.

#8 Flame Princess

Hail to the Queen baby

Flame Princess? She is so hot right now. Of the wide variety of princesses in the Land of Ooo old FP definitely stands out. Regal, passionate and extremely powerful she is not someone to be taken lightly. If you get too close you will get burned, a lesson her scheming father learned the hard way. She had quite the hot and cute relationship with Finn and I was sad when they broke up. #flinname

#7 Lumpy Space Princess

All the boys calling me because they want my lumps, my lumps, my lovely lady lumps

Lumpy Space Princess (or LSP for short) is from “Lumpy Space” in an alternate dimension. Voiced by Ward in a hilarious Valley girl accent LSP is a spoiled, selfish brat but has so much personality you cannot help but love her. And of course her lumps. Those lovely lady lumps.

#6 BMO

Come on guys. It’s skateboarding time

BMO (pronounced “Beemo”) is just the best. This fun little androgynous video game console shaped robot is so adorable. Super perky, optimistic and always up for a game (whether played with him or ON him) he brings a ray of joy into the lives of Finn and Jake.

#5 Marcelline the Vampire Queen

She rocks so hard

Into Goth chicks that love rock? Then Marcelline the Vampire Queen is your cup of blood. Half-human and half-demon she is edgy and dark and, of course, has her share of daddy issues. As a child she was cared for by Simon Petrikov, the human who would become the Ice King, and this backstory added another dimension to an already pretty cool character.

#4 Princess Bubblegum

This kiss/dance formula is not working as planned

This scientist and former ruler of the Candy Kingdom is a strong woman who gets things done. Frequently coming up with a new experiment or solving problems in her kingdom Bubblegum is a great ruler though she does let her controlling nature get the better of her. The unrequited love of our hero Finn the couple may finally get together before the final curtain falls.

#3 The Ice King

A banana. I hate bananas! What’s that Gunther? I bought bananas. What’s that got to do with anything?

The funniest character in the entire show has to be the Ice King, voiced by Tom Kenny (‘Spongebob Squarepants’). Driven crazy by the magic crown that gives him his ice powers and often caught trying to capture some random princess, the Ice King’s shenanigans are always a good time. When his back story is revealed we realise that he is not really a villain but a tragic figure. You cannot help but pity him when tries to impose himself into Finn and Jake’s lives. And as mentioned above he has a touching history with Marcelline the Vampire Queen.

#2 Finn the Human

We’re going on an “adventure”

The hero of the series Finn the Human is brave, plucky and loves him some adventure. He also has a sweet hat, some great swordsmanship and blurts out weird phrases. It has been enjoyable following him around Ooo and watching his wondrous and wacky adventures. A bit of a hopeless romantic let us hope that he does find his princess before the show ends.

#1 Jake the Dog

Number one? You like me. You really like me!

Is anyone surprised that Jake is number one? Well you shouldn’t be. He is a super cool talking dog with shape shifting magical abilities. As Finn’s best friend he is the epitome of loyalty and acts both as comic relief and valiant sidekick. He has an interesting girlfriend in Lady Rainicorn (a half-human, half unicorn creature that speaks Korean) and five odd looking puppies. What an interesting life Jake leads.

When this show ends he will be the character that I will miss the most. In honour of Jake let us all have some bacon pancakes for breakfast tomorrow.

So what did you think of the list? Did I miss out any of your favourites? Feel free to comment below and if you enjoyed this post you can share it with your peeps. Sharing is caring.
