Sommerleigh Pollonais, Horror Head Writer
Day 30/31: Body Parts (1991)

Who made it?
Directed by: Eric Red (100 Feet, Bad Moon)
What’s it about?
Once when I was a kid, I stuck my arm out the car window as we drove the long, winding road to the beach. The car wasn’t going that fast but as I let the wind drift through my fingers my hand connected with a branch that was hanging too closely to the road. It hurt like hell and maybe made viewing Body Parts that much more chilling.
Big in the 90’s actor Jeff Fahey (The Lawnmower Man, Machete, Planet Terror) stars as Bill, a man who loses his arm in a car accident. In a radical procedure his arm is replaced, and he makes a full recovery, only to find himself having visions of gruesome murders, seeing through the eyes of the killer as if he’s committing them. Turns out the body part he received came from a convicted serial killer who maybe isn’t as dead as he should be.

Gruesome doesn’t begin to describe this movie! The plot is over-the-top ridiculous, but you won’t care as Fahey fully commits to the role. And the fast pace ensures it’s never boring. Add to that some crazy practical effects and gnarly body horror and you have an underrated gem on your hands.
Favourite Scene
The car crash where Fahey loses his arm was insane!
Fun Trivia
The stunt double for Jeff Fahey almost died during the car crash scene when the force of the rear-end collision caused him to be ejected 50 feet into the air without a harness. Fortunately, he wasn’t injured and the shot made final cut.
