Top 3 Reasons to be Excited about ‘Young Justice’ Season 3

I remember growing up and being excited to sit and watch my favourite toons on a Saturday morning. We had fantastic shows like ‘Batman: The Animated Series’, ‘Justice League’ and ‘Justice League Unlimited’, and the ‘X-Men’ animated series. It was a lot of excitements.

One of the holdovers from this golden age was the Cartoon Network shows ‘Green Lantern: The Animated Series’ and the excellent ‘Young Justice’. Unfortunately both were cancelled in 2013 and we instead got ‘Teen Titans Go!’ Yay?

While people were sad to see ‘Green Lantern’ go it was the loss of ‘Young Justice’ that left many fans deeply disappointed and clamouring for the show to be continued somehow. Well Christmas came early this year and it was officially announced that the series will be getting another season. No word on when or which network but a wonderful announcement all the same. In honour of ‘Young Justice’ getting a new lease on life, and without spoilers, I will be counting down the Top 3 Reasons you should be excited about ‘Young Justice’ Season 3:

#1 DC at its best

Two generations of awesome

‘Young Justice’ focuses on the younger heroes of the DC universe like Robin, Nightwing, Miss Martian, Beast Boy, Aqualad, Artemis and Kid Flash. It also features DC A-list heroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Aquaman, and big villains as well.

The show was co-created by Greg Weisman, who also co-created the gothic animated series ‘Gargoyles’ and was supervising producer on the truly spectacular ‘The Spectacular Spider-Man’, and the pedigree definitely shows. The show features high quality animation, writing and voice acting and well deserves its reputation for being one of the best animated superhero TV shows of all time. ‘Young Justice’ continues the tradition of high quality toons from the house Supes built. So while Marvel may rule at the box office, in animation land DC is king!

#2 A dark tone in the bright landscape

Time to get serious!

These days we have a lot of cutesy, silly and even trippy cartoons on the old tube. And while this is fine we have been desperately lacking in the action superhero department. Though ‘Young Justice’ featured teenage characters this was no light, bubblegum show. It featured some dark, intense and quite mature story telling.

Oh no you didn’t!

And one thing that set the show apart from other superhero toons was the serialised structure. The seasons were effectively one long story told in several chapters. Just like, you guessed it, a comic book. This opened the door for gripping and in depth stories that were most satisfying. There were twists, betrayals and sacrifices that kept viewers on their toes. I am excited to see what story arc they have planned for Season 3.

#3 Epic action

It is on like Donkey Kong

The action in this show is suh-weet! It is always fun seeing DC heroes throw down with the baddies and ‘Young Justice’ gives you your money’s worth. And because of the deep story telling and great character development it is not just mindless fisticuffs but every battle has stakes.

Simply put ‘Young Justice’ is a fantastic show which more than deserved to get another season. And I will be tuning in whenever it does drop.
