Julien Neaves, Caribbean Head Writer
Plot: A scarlet ibis tries to catch a crab, but things do not go as planned.
Review: Animated comedy short The Big Catch (2004) was the final film by Arminda Bailey as a student of the University of Trinidad and Tobago. And I think she did a pretty good job. The animation is bright and the character movements smooth. The story is simple and has a Looney Tunes-esque sense of comedy. And the hijinks are set to some cheerful steelpan music (steelpan is the national instrument of TT, and the ibis is one of the two national birds).
At under three minutes (not counting credits) The Big Catch is a very quick watch. And with its colourful animation, light humour and soothing music it makes for a fun, refreshing experience.
Editor Jules’ Score: 8 out of 10
