Review: A Perfect Murder, Bound, Fatal Attraction. These are just a few examples (in this genre fan’s humble opinion) of stellar thrillers. A great thriller is the one you don’t see coming, where the twists aren’t just surprising, but they add real tension and up the stakes in ways that are both entertaining and completely engaging. All of which is just my long-winded way of saying Loving Adults is a great thriller worthy of standing with the giants of the genre.

This 2022 Netflix Danish movie stars Dar Salim (Game of Thrones, Darkland) and Sonia Richter (The Bridge, Exit Plan) as husband and wife, Christian and Leonora. Their lives are seemingly perfect, with Christian running a very successful construction firm and Leonora as an ex-violinist turned mother and housewife. The story starts simply enough with Leonora suspecting Christian is having an affair with his company’s architect Xenia (Sus Wilkins). Actually, the story starts with a tale of murder being told by an ex-police officer to his daughter and us the audience unravelling Leonora’s “murder” by Christian in a case of what you THINK you know versus what actually may or may not have happened. And for me to say more would be spoiling a very well-crafted tale of obsession and revenge.
Dar Salim does a great job as Christian, a cheater who learns a very hard lesson about making choices you can’t come back from. But it’s Sonia Richter as Leonora who steals the show as a wife and mother who will go to great lengths to keep her family whole. I’m hesitant to say more, but she made me think of Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction meets Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl, and her performance is absolutely the glue that holds it all together.

That said, these actors have solid, smart writing to back them up, as well as a slow-burn (but never boring) pace that keeps the unease and tension right where it needs to be. Solid directing, tight editing and a thriller that keeps you guessing from the moment the first twist is revealed, if you love this genre Loving Adults is a must-see thriller that will keep you riveted from beginning to end.
Score: 8 out of 10
