Blast From the Past: Vaser Claw Episode 3 Review

Julien Neaves, Caribbean Head Writer

Alien hero Vaser Claw (Jumael James) continues his journey to track down a mysterious villain in the third episode of the titular Trini Sci Fi web series “Fortitude.” With a SPOILER ALERT for Episodes 1 and 2, and a mild one for Episode 3 let’s dive in.

Wha’ppen to you girl?!

The new episode picks up right where the last one left off, with Vaser being attacked by the female villain Acuna, played by Jenelle Karamath in some of the most striking costuming in the series so far. I love her look, her weapons and her sonic scream power (I assume), though she has some colour-removing, time-dilation power or something which was somewhat vague. Her battle with Vaser is brief (I need more action Ancil) but it is longer than last episode’s, and we got some backstory on Acuna, which I appreciated.

Two words: breath and mint

Vaser’s boo Princess Lura (Vanessa Seunal) also returns and we get to see more of her great chemistry with Vaser. She meets the ridiculous Keith (Kendall Arneaud) and I do enjoy the running gag of him never finishing the story of how he went from going to buy bread to being stranded on an alien planet.

Hello darkness my old friend, I’ve come to talk with you again…

We do check in with Lallane (Khaliyah Jaggernath-Mills) as she continues her test (not my favourite storyline, but it is improving), as well as with Queen Lou-Cinda (Charli Griffith) and her hotness Infernaa (Akeima Gibson). In this episode there are some good references both internally and to flagship show Magonolia which I liked; I do enjoy connected storytelling.

Here’s looking at you kid

Episode 3 is an improvement over the previous episode but did not reach the heights of the impressive premiere. Here’s hoping we finally reach Condor in the finale and the show reaches its highest heights of quality yet.
