Unhuman is an Unfunny, Uninspired Snorefest

Sommerleigh Pollonais, Horror Head Writer

Plot: A group of high school students school on a field trip have their school bus crash. Relationships are tested once they realize they are being stalked by an attacker who intends to drive them out and straight into a horrifying fight to survive.

Review: Unhuman is supposed to be a funny satirical look at high school, The Breakfast Club meets Night of the Living Dead if you will, but while the young actors here are all doing their best to deliver memorable performances, the story itself is unfunny, uninspired and unworthy of my time and your time. I’ve already lost MY time watching this that I’ll never get back so let me save you the trouble.

HEY! YOU CAN’T POOP THERE!

Ever is a teen who doesn’t know what she wants out of life or who she is (yes, you’ve heard this song before), on a school trip with her bestie Tamra. Along for the ride are your typical trope of teenagers. Danny the jock, Randall the loner, Steven the loveable weirdo and token black guy best friend of Danny the Jock, Hunter, a.k.a. Hunt. After the bus crashes the kids are seemingly attacked by a zombie and have to work together to survive while working on themselves, their friendships and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I was so bored with this movie I had to start it over because I lost interest halfway through and didn’t realize the credits had rolled. Not only is Unhuman deeply unoriginal but it’s also dull as hell. There’s a twist in this movie that supposed to be jaw dropping but i I saw coming from the first act and I wasn’t even paying that much attention!

Oh man. Rage in the Cage has fallen on hard times

The practical effects aren’t half bad but the camera work is so shaky and cuts away so fast you hardly have anytime to feel the impact of the gory scenes. And then there’s the final act. If you thought the final Lord of the Rings movie didn’t know when to quit, Unhuman has that beat and then some. It goes on and on and on for no other reason I can think of but to pad the runtime. Not to mention they stick in a cliffhanger ending, as if anyone who sees this snorefest will be waiting with baited breath for a sequel.

There are lots of other movies out there that handled this kind of story better. A Scout’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Tucker and Dale vs Evil or The Cabin in the Woods; any of these are better choices than Unhuman, a movie that thinks it’s smarter, funnier and more entertaining than it actually is.
