Plot: An exiled priest tries to escape his demons while living in a remote village in Spain.
Review: The plot description doesn’t begin to describe the insanity unfolding in 30 Coins! The series premiered on November 29, 2020 on HBO Europe and if you’re anything like me, the title (which is what piqued my interest as I knew nothing about this) was a big clue as to what the main plot device would be in this show.
It’s been a long, long time since a horror movie/tv show had me yelling at my screen, and at one point I wondered aloud “what kind of effed up mind came up with this?!” I’ve only watched one of the three episodes so far that have been released, but I’m already hooked. And for those who don’t like subtitles don’t worry, they already have dubbed versions for you to enjoy. Although I highly recommend watching it subbed as the emotional nuances always connect more fully in the speaker’s native tongue (it’s why anime is always better subbed).
So if you’ve been seeking out a fun, scary and intriguing horror series to fill your time until American Horror Story and Evil comes back on the air, 30 Coins is sure to scratch that demonic itch. Go check it out now.
