Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo is Rall Rite

Sommerleigh Pollonais – Senior Writer

I don’t really make a habit of watching Scooby-Doo movies. I saw the live-action ones, in cinema no less, and I recall enjoying the first film. I barely remember the second. The live action VOD ones I’ve never seen, and with the exception of Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (which was fantastic by the way) I never really watch the animated films.

All that said, Happy Halloween Scooby-Doo popped up on my Firestick, so I figured, why the hell not? Turns out, Scooby and the Mystery Inc still have some laughs left in them.

Rook at this roker

So this was your standard Scooby-Doo mystery, but heavily modernised for present-day audiences. For instance, Daphne and Fred use their smartphones to hack drones and eventually end up driving a high-tech version of the Mystery Machine.

The animation also looked fresh while still adhering to the original designs and movement styles created by Hanna-Barbera. Like some of the films before it there are guest voices/actors playing themselves, such as Bill Nye and Elvira, and they even manage to tie the world of Scooby-Doo into that of Batman, something I would never have seen coming, yet it actually worked.

Well the pumpkin just hit the fan…

The ghosts (or maybe not ghosts) fit with the Halloween theme and there are even some fun pop culture references smattered here and there, with my favourite being Fred’s version of Arnold in Predator. The movie is basically one long car chase, but it still managed to entertain me right up to the end.

Not much left to say than, kids will enjoy it and adults who may have grown up solving mysteries alongside Fred (Frank Welker) Daphne (Grey Griffin) Velma (Kate Micucci) Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) and roggiest of rogs Scooby Dooby Doo (Frank Welker) won’t feel like they’re being tortured for having to sit through the latest Mystery Inc adventure.
