Norwegian Post-Apocalyptic Horror ‘Cadaver’ is Painfully Lifeless and Mediocre

Sommerleigh Pollonais – Horror Head Writer

Plot: In the starving aftermath of a nuclear disaster, a family of three attends a charitable event at a hotel, which takes a dark turn when people start to disappear.

That dude’s finger is freakishly long. No joke; I just wanted to point that out. And no, that’s not a joke either

Cadaver has a solid premise and as post-apocalyptic films go, it gets points for trying something a bit different. After some type of nuclear event, we follow a family of three – Mother Leo (short for Leonora), Father Jacob and their young daughter Alice – as they try to do more than just survive in a world where both food and hope exist in slim measure. They find out about a hotel that offers dinner and a show where all are welcome. This is what I like to call a HUGE RED FLAG. Of course they attend, and when the guests begin disappearing the couple (with their daughter in tow) must figure out the mystery of the hotel and its director before it’s too late and they can never leave.

Oh sorry. This appears to be the Creepy Doctors Convention. I am looking for the Creepy Nurses Convention

Despite the solid premise the execution sadly doesn’t live up to the story. With the exception of two people (Thorbjørn Harr’s portrayal of Mathias and Stig Frode Henriksen as Hans) everyone else is painfully mediocre and forgettable. I loved the look of the hotel, which made me think of The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Overlook Hotel from The Shining. I loved the use of red in this movie, as well as the paintings that signified exactly what was happening in this hotel (gotta pay attention to the details) but other than these visual touches, there just isn’t much that makes Cadaver stand out from a crowd.

Solid take off that fails to stick the landing, this Cadaver is best left in the morgue.

Sommer’s Score: 4.5 out of 10
