Just yesterday I did a post on the latest trailer for Pixar’s 3D computer animated comedy adventure Finding Dory, the highly anticipated sequel to Finding Nemo.
But there is another 3D computer animated film, a musical fantasy adventure, that has flown a bit under the radar – Disney’s Moana – featuring the coolest dude on the planet Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Johnson on his Twitter account recently posted a poster of the film (see above) and reported the trailer will be released this Sunday before the Tony Awards. In the poster we see the heroine Princess Moana Waialiki (voiced by 14 year-old Auli’i Cravalho), the only daughter of a chief in a long line of navigators, and legendary demi-god Maui (The Rock) riding a wave on a small ship headed for an island.
There is not much information on the film but the poster does convey a sense of grand adventure. The colours are bright and beautiful and the tagline “the ocean is calling” really stirs up that old wanderlust.
Ron Clements and John Musker, directors of 2009 Disney film The Princess and the Frog which featured a black princess, will be at the helm for this film. I am glad that we are getting even more diversity in our Disney princesses with Moana, who is from the South Pacific. Let all little girls know that they can be a princess no matter their ethnicity or race.
Moana seems like it will be a fun film and I look forward to the full trailer and hearing the voice talents of The Rock. I always do smell what he is cooking.
So are you looking forward to seeing Moana? What did you think of the poster? Feel free to comment below.
